Looking for some healthy reads for your classroom or home? Look no further!

With most classes back in full-swing (in-person or virtually), there is no better time to add to your classroom book collection! We have compiled a list of our favourite books below to make refreshing your book roster just a little bit easier. These books have different themes to help your classroom understand gratefulness, their brains, and how to fulfill their own happiness.

Age 5-6

Grateful Ninja

This story follows the Grateful Ninja on a journey of finding gratitude for the simple things in life. This book reminds/teaches our kids the power of a positive attitude and developing a heart of kindness.

The Most Magnificent Thing by Ashley Spires

This funny book follows a girl and her dog as she tries to create the most magnificent thing. Join her as she finds out that creating something magnificent means making mistakes along the way. For the early grades’ exploration of character education, this story provides the importance of perseverance and creativity. 

I Can Do It by Laurie Wright

This book offers methods to help manage young readers emotions through simple mantras that help them understand that they can do anything they set their minds to! This short book helps children to push through their self doubt and encourages bravery.

Age 7-8

Be Kind by Pat Zietlow Miller

This moving story helps explore what it means to be kind. ‘Be Kind’ explores what kindness is, and how any act, big or small, can make a difference- or at least help a friend. Follow along with the story to remind the reader of the power that showing kindness to one another can have.

Fill a Bucket by Carol McCloud

This book illustrates the importance of how to fill their own ‘buckets’ with happiness, and how they can fill other people’s buckets too. This story helps kids to understand how special, valuable and capable they are.

Mindful Me Goes To Sleep by Erin LeDrew

This interactive book helps children to explore their worries and provides techniques to help them quiet their minds and practice mindfulness. 

Age 9-10+

Your Fantastic Elastic Brain by JoAnn Deak

This story offers a fun and engaging introduction to the anatomy and functions of the brain that will empower each young reader to exercise and grow their brains. It is the perfect introduction to growth mindset and might even teach the adult readers a thing or two, too!

50 Ways to Feel Happy by Vanessa King, Val Payne

This book provides 50 different activities, projects and crafts that young readers can complete when they need some ideas to feel happier! The book shifts through ten central themes such as awareness, resilience, and acceptance, to help bring out joy in every reader.

Just Breathe: Meditation, Mindfulness, Movement, and More by Mallika Chopra

‘Just Breathe’ offers young readers techniques and exercises to handle stress and a live happier, more connected life. It is the perfect introduction to mindfulness and will supply young readers with exercises that they can implement anywhere!
